SEND Offer at Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation.
Meet our Head of Inclusion
Miss Hayley Stevens
The SEND Local Offer is guided by the SEND Code of Practice (2015), embodying our commitment at Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation to the belief that every child with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) deserves an accessible education that empowers them to thrive. We hold the vision that education should be purposeful, progressive, and intricately tailored to meet the individual needs of each child.
Quality first teaching is our foundation in nurturing pupils with SEND. Our dedicated teachers plan each lesson thoughtfully, ensuring that every child's unique needs are recognised and catered to. Reasonable adjustments are carefully crafted and documented within the children's Learning Plans, reinforcing our commitment to personalised education. Children may engage in the same task, yet each is guided toward different outcomes, or they may learn the same skill at varied levels, allowing everyone to shine.
With a wide range of teaching strategies, our educators create a vibrant, inclusive environment where every child can flourish. For those requiring extra support, small group settings or individualised one-to-one attention from our Teachers, Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants, ensuring that each child can achieve their potential.
All children on the SEND register have a personalised Learning Plan that highlights their strengths, interests, and reasonable adjustments. These plans, filled with SMART targets, are revisited each term, fostering meaningful discussions between parents, children, and teachers. Together, we reflect on progress, celebrating victories and addressing challenges with enthusiasm.
When progress is limited despite the support of their Learning Plan, our Inclusion Manager may recommend engaging external professionals. Throughout this journey, we ensure that parents and carers are entirely involved, creating a partnership that uplifts each child’s educational experience. Our unwavering commitment to an inclusive and inspiring educational environment drives us to adapt and refine our approaches, ensuring every student feels valued and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

This SEND Offer explains how we support children with SEND and how parents and carers can be involved every step of the way.
1. Identification of SEND
How we recognise needs early
- We closely monitor every child’s progress in learning, behaviour, and wellbeing.
- Teachers and teaching assistants notice when a child is not making expected progress and share this with the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
- We use a range of assessments and observations to help identify a child’s specific needs.
- Parents and carers are always informed early if we think a child may need additional support.
2. The Graduated Approach (Assess – Plan – Do – Review)
Our cycle of support
- Assess: We work with parents, teachers, and sometimes external professionals to understand the child’s strengths and difficulties.
- Plan: We agree on strategies, interventions, and support — these are written into an Individual Learning Plan (ILP).
- Do: Teachers and teaching assistants provide the support in class and in small groups.
- Review: Progress is checked every term with parents/carers, the child, and staff, and the plan is adjusted.
3. Levels of Support
Different types of provision
- Quality First Teaching: All children receive high-quality, differentiated teaching in the classroom.
- SEN Support: Extra help such as small group work, targeted interventions, or adapted resources.
- Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP): For children with more complex needs, we work with the Local Authority to secure an EHCP that sets out long-term provision.
4. Working with Parents and Carers
Partnership with families
- Parents/carers are partners in every stage of the SEND process.
- Termly review meetings are held to discuss progress, next steps, and targets.
- Parents can request additional meetings at any time with the SENCo or class teacher.
- We provide clear written updates and share strategies for supporting learning at home.
5. Pupil Voice
Listening to children
- We involve children in setting their own targets where possible.
- Children have regular opportunities to share how they feel about their learning and wellbeing.
- Older pupils may take part in their own review meetings.
6. Transition Arrangements
Moving on with confidence
- Starting school: We offer meetings, visits, and additional transition sessions for children with SEND.
- Between year groups: Teachers share detailed information so support continues smoothly.
- Secondary transfer: We work closely with receiving schools to ensure information is passed on and children are prepared for the move.
7. Involvement of Specialists
When we need extra expertise
- We work with a range of external professionals, such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Specialist Advisory Teachers, and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
- Parents are always consulted before referrals are made.
8. Staff Training and Expertise
Building skills to support children
- Our staff receive regular training in SEND, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language development, and social/emotional needs.
- The SENCo is fully qualified and supported by senior leaders.
- Teaching Assistants are trained to deliver evidence-based interventions.
9. Accessibility and Inclusion
Making the school environment welcoming
- Both schools are accessible for children with mobility difficulties.
- We provide adapted resources (e.g. enlarged print, coloured overlays) where needed.
- Classrooms are inclusive spaces, with visual aids, flexible seating, and calm spaces.
- We comply with the Equality Act 2010 and have an Accessibility Plan in place.
10. Supporting Wellbeing and SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health)
Caring for the whole child
- We provide pastoral support, mentoring, and social skills groups.
- Trained staff deliver interventions for anxiety, resilience, and emotional regulation.
- We work with families to ensure children’s wellbeing needs are met.
11. Measuring Progress and Success
How we know support is working
- Every intervention is tracked and reviewed.
- Teachers monitor progress weekly; SENCo oversees provision termly.
- Success is measured not only in academic progress, but also in confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
12. Preparing for Adulthood
Looking to the future
- Even at primary age, we encourage independence, responsibility, and life skills.
- Older children are supported to think about their next steps into secondary school and beyond.
13. Funding and Resources
How SEND support is resourced
- The schools use notional SEND budgets to provide interventions and resources.
- For children with EHCPs, additional top-up funding is applied for from the Local Authority.
- Resources are allocated fairly based on need.
14. Complaints about SEND
What to do if you are worried
- If you are concerned, please talk first to your child’s class teacher or Head of Inclusion .
- If issues remain unresolved, the Federation Complaints Policy explains the steps you can take: Bonneygrove Primary School - Bonneygrove and Millbrook Primary Federation School Policies
- Parents may also contact the Local Authority for further support.
